PRESS RELEASE

Embassy of India, Seoul, in association with the Korean Yoga Sports Federation (KYF), a non-Governmental organization under the Korean Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, organized the 5th UN International Day of Yoga on 16 June 2019. The event was held at the iconic Gwanghwamun Square in Central Seoul.

2. More than 1500 Yoga enthusiasts participated in the event and performed various Yoga asanas with enthusiasm and skill.  Mr Ahn Min-Seok, Member of the ROK National Assembly, Mr Kim Hui-Sun, President of IDY Organising Committee,  Mr Jang Jong-Su, President of the Korea Yoga Association, Mr Lee Young-Bea, Chief Executive Officer of Korean Tourism Organisation, and representatives of the Seoul Sports Council and Jongno-Gu District led the IDY celebrations.

3. The event began with the Yoga teacher of the Swami Vivekananda Cultural Centre, Seoul leading the gathering in a yogic chant and followed by demonstration of each Asana / Pranayama from the Common Yoga Protocol. Thereafter, the participants performed the entire protocol.  

4. 80 booths were set up by various organizations / entities to propagate Indian culture and yoga. Various yoga related products and props were available for sale. Proceeds from the Registration fee, which were collected by KYF, are being donated to UNICEF.
