Official visit of RM to Korea

On the second day of his 3-day visit to Republic of Korea, RakshaMantri Shri Rajnath Singh had official talks with His Excellency Mr. JeongKyeongdoo, Minister of National Defence of ROK. During the talks, the two leaders comprehensively reviewed bilateral defence cooperation. The Ministers noted that defence cooperation lies at the heart of the Special Strategic Partnership between India and the ROK. They discussed the ongoing cooperation at Service to Service level and prospects for enhanced cooperation between India and Korea defence industries. They also exchanged views on regional and international developments of mutual interest. Two major agreements to further defence educational exchanges and extend logistical support to each other’s navies were signed. These agreements will help enhance defence cooperation between twocountries.

2) Earlier in the day, RM delivered the keynote address at the opening session of the 8thSeoul Defence Dialogue, the premier Korean security &defence oriented multilateral dialogue organized annually by the Korean Ministry of National Defence. Ministers and senior defence officials from 55 countries and International Organisations participated including from US, UK, China, Russia, Japan, Australia, France, UN& EU. In his address, RM highlighted the strong and robust cooperation between India and ROK extending to security, defence, cultural, economic & people to people ties. He expressed Government of India’s strong support for the ROK Government’s quest to bring peace and stability to the Korean peninsula. He also emphasized the need for all like-minded countries to work together to counter global security threats, especially terrorism. He explained India’s inclusive vision of the Indo-Pacific concept; which focusses on socio-economic development and rules-based order.Lastly, he highlighted the core principles of India’s foreign policy, namely “Neighbourhood First”, “Act East”, and SAGAR (Security and Growth for all in the Region) which will contribute to the dawn of the Asian century. He called upon the global community to work together on the basis of the five principles that have characterized Indian thought i.e. Samman (Respect), Samwad (Dialogue), Sahayog (Cooperation), Shanti (Peace) and Samridhi (Prosperity). On the 150thyear of birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, RM called upon all nations to build broad based global collaborative structures that promote pluralism and equality, ideals that were dear to Mahatma Gandhi.

3) RM paid homage at the National Cemetery of Korea to the brave martyrs who had laid down their lives for the Korean nation. He also visited the War Memorial to which he presented a copy of the citation received by the Indian 60thPara Field Hospital for its exceptional contributions during the KoreanWar.
