Namaste!

I am happy to know that the Miryang Arirang International Yoga Competition will be held from 10 to 11 November 2018 in Miryang city.  This is part of the untiring efforts being made by the Miryang City Administration and the Wonkwang Digital University to promote Yoga and Indian culture among the Korean people.

Yoga is an ancient physical, mental and spiritual practice that originated in India. The word ‘yoga’ derives from Sanskrit and means to join or unite, symbolizing the union of body and consciousness.  This practice has been embraced wholeheartedly by millions of people across the world.  In the fast paced and stressful life that we lead today, Yoga offers a means for achieving mental tranquility and a better life.  It offers a means of achieving a balance between the body, mind and intellect.

With its theme of “Cooperation and Harmony, Not Competition”, the Miryang Arirang International Yoga Competition will provide an excellent platform for Korean and international Yoga practitioners and enthusiasts alike to gather and interact on the practice and philosophy of yoga.  I wish this competition all success.

I hear that the Miryang City is also constructing a Miryang Rural Tourism and Resort Complex which includes a ‘Korea-India Cultural Exchange Center’. I am confident that this Culture Exchange Centre will contribute significantly towards bringing diverse aspects of Indian culture to our Korean friends and thus draw our friendly nations and peoples even closer together.
